Calls for size 7US DPNs -- size 7US, 16” circular needle -- cable needle -- stitch markers

Both hat and mittens are started with a cable band, knitted flat, with stitches picked up and worked in the round for the top of the hat or mitten.

The hat and mittens are deliberately knitted on needles smaller than ordinary for Sonoma, in order to result in a very dense, warm fabric. The cable bands around the head circumference will be sturdy, but will still have some stretch to them. Because you are using DPNs for decrease rows, it may be easier to mark beginnings of rounds with a safety pin instead of a stitch marker.
