This is a dishcloth so there is no gauge requirements.

I recommend a solid color yarn to allow for the picture to be seen better. Be careful with colors that are too dark or too bright as this can interfere with the pattern showing up as well.

Needle size varies based on your own preference.

I am a loose knitter so I use a smaller needle when knitting these cloths. My sample was knitted with less than 2oz of cotton on a US3 needle and the finished size was about 8X8.
