Patons Classic Wool worsted works best for this pattern. I used 2 100 g. skeins of black and 2 100 g. skeins of burgundy. In order for the pattern to create correct finished dimensions it is imporant to use wool that felts well. No superwash.

Bag is worked from top down on 16 inch US9 circular needles. Handle and bottom straps are made using double pointed needles or ‘flexi-flips’. Bottom straps are grafted together using kitchener stitch.

The two toned handle for this bag makes it special. To get a different color on each side, the handle was double knitted. The pattern outlines this process in detail with pictures of each step. Although not difficult, it is a rather time consuming and tedious.

If you don’t want to double knit, a second option is included to make an ‘all black’ handle that is quick and easy.

Pattern includes options for three different ways to attach your handle: double loop, knot and twist. I couldn’t decide which I liked best, so I included directions for all three.

Bag and handle are knitted in two separate pieces and felted in washing machine before being sewn together.

A fun project!
