Hello and welcome to the Downton Abbey MKAL 2016! This is the final season of Downton and thus our final MKAL as well (although we’ve heard rumor of a movie, so we are holding out hope!) And, to make this year extra special, we are also offering a MCAL for all of the crocheters out there! Please see Leawesome’s MCAL pattern page for more information on the MCAL!
Update 1/30/16 - In order to cut down on the number of stickied posts in the Jimmy Beans Wool Group, I have added direct links to the Clue Threads here and will be unsticking the earlier threads in order to make the current threads easier to find. Here are the direct links:

I made a pilgrimage to Lorna’s Laces in Chicago back in August where their awesome team allowed me to test dye this color myself. I was aiming to create a color that looked like the Yorkshire skyline, and I am so thrilled with how it turned out! I hope you like it too! This color is only available at Jimmy Beans Wool, and kits for the MKAL are available here:
Here are the materials you need for this year’s MKAL:
-2 skeins of Lorna’s Laces Solemate in “Yorkshire Skies” -or- 850 yds of fingering weight yarn.
-US Size 4 – 24” & 40” circular needles (or size needed to obtain gauge.)
-US Size 4 - DPNs
To savor this year’s MKAL even more, we’ve decided to break the project into slightly smaller clues. This should allow people to stay pretty caught up with the MKAL, and the fun will last ALL SEASON LONG! There will be 8 clues in total, and then a week break (for finishing, blocking, etc.) and then a big blowout Show and Tell on March 6th when the Series Finale airs in the US.
Here are the Dates for this year’s MKAL:
Jan 3rd – Downton Season Premier and 1st Clue
Jan 10th – Clue 2
Jan 17th – Clue 3
Jan 24th – Clue 4
Jan 31st – Clue 5
Feb 7th - Clue 6
Feb 14th – Clue 7
Feb 21st – Clue 8
March 6th – Show Finale & Final Show and Tell!
How to Access the Clues:
When you purchase the MKAL pattern, be sure that you are logged into your Ravelry account. Once the transaction is complete, you should have the option to save the pattern to your Ravelry library. Once it is in your library, you will automatically be notified every time a new clue is released. Each Sunday (on the dates above) you will need to update the pattern as directed, and then the new clue will appear in the document. If you accidentally forget to save the pattern to your library, please message me with your paypal e-mail address and I will verify your purchase and then add it to your library manually. This is the easiest and fastest way to receive the clues. For now, there is an info page place holder, but the first clue will not be available until Sunday Jan. 3rd.
How to get pattern help:
Just like previous years, there will be threads for both Help Chat and Photos over in the Jimmy Beans Wool Ravelry Group, For the MKAL, there will be a separate thread for each clue, so be sure to ask your question for whichever clue you are on in the appropriate Help Chat thread. The photo thread will be a “spoiler” thread, for those who want a sneak peek at what the finished clue looks like. To kick us off, we already have an MKAL Pre-Chat Thread started, so please feel free to join in the excitement!
