This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004)

I like to stay up late and knit. After my husband goes to bed, I sit alone and knit with the TV on. One chilly winter night, I was watching one of my favorite shows, “Criminal Minds.” At the end of each episode, there is always a quote. I heard “Death stops life, not relationships” in David Rossi’s voice. I felt Mino’s arm on my shoulder.

This “shawl” is to be knit for your shoulder width. The wings are short unlike most shawls and just hang by your sides. You may use a shawl pin over a fancy dress. You may call this unique shawl either “shoulder warmer” or “back dresser.” It can be knit in any weight of yarn; the heavier the yarn you use, the thicker, bigger, and warmer it gets.

Skills required: K, K2tog, M1L, SSK, Sl1, psso, YO

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
