Mitts are an ideal accessory to tide you over to a new season. This pair has an interesting texture on the back of the hand that I called “slip stitch cable”, because it may look like a cable but is not worked like one.

These mitts were entirely inspired by the luscious yarn I used, Quince & Co. Chickadee. It is a lofty sport weight yarn with lots of air spun in and therefore you can knit it at a loose gauge and still get a fabric that can defy low temperatures.

Finished size 6 3/4” / 17cm circumference at knuckle height, shown with 1”/2.5cm of negative ease

Yarn One skein of Quince & Co. Chickadee (166m / 181 yds per 50g skein), 100% wool, colour: Kittywake

Gauge 10.5 sts x 18 rnds = 5cm in St st, after blocking

Needles One set of US 6 / 4mm DPNs or size needed to achieve gauge, use magic loop method if prefered

Notions 2 stitch markers, cable needle, stitch holder or waste yarn to hold live stitches

Difficulty My test knitters rated this advanced beginner – Use of DPNs or magic loop, cables, various textures, putting live stitches on holder or waste yarn

Thanks to all my wonderful test knitters who made this pattern perfect! Have a look at their projects.
