On the television series Babylon 5, Z’ha’dum is a dead world on the edge of the galactic rim, believed to be the homeworld of an ancient race known as the Shadows. They warred with other species in the belief that this would encourage evolutionary advances in the younger races, wiping out whole galaxies with only the strongest surviving.

Worked in garter stitch, the lace becomes a subtle texture without light behind it, lurking just beyond your human perception like a Shadow creature. Shift the scarf and the lace holes resemble a Shadow creature’s many glowing eyes, peering malevolently at you from another wavelength.

Or something.

Finished scarf is 11” x 52” (28 cm x 132 cm).

Z’ha’dum is an easy knit and since it’s all done in garter stitch the scarf is reversible.

Materials:
3 balls Knit Picks Palette Asphalt Heather for 52” scarf.
1 ball Knit Picks Stroll Glimmer Black.
US size 2 needles: two circulars, one pair straight, one pair double pointed.
