Before finishing it were a little over 1,000 m, but as was to be expected from a merino, the skein shrank a bit and now it should be something between 900 and 950 m in 120 g.
I used some Falkland Merino, 21.5 micron, so fairly fine. I pulled two batches of each about 60 g and started spinning the first of them. I tried to go really, really fine - but after 3 days or so I had done a good deal less then 10 g and I was ready to toss everything in a corner. Mainly, because I really don’t like to spin a too controlled short draw, I’m more a “let-the-fiber-draw-itself” spinner, with more relaxed attitude to absolute uniformity.
That was, when I decided, that really, really fine lace, something like cobweb isn’t really my cup of tea, and I don’t have much use for something like that anyway. I tried to keep a good deal finer, than I usually do, but without becoming a control freak.
With the final result I’m quite ok, though it could have used a bit more plying twist. But I’m NOT going to run that through the wheel a second time!
