Notes

6/18 Final note for anyone using this yarn
For me the striping of this colorway of this yarn worked best at 72 stitches on size 0. As much as I like the texture, the stockinette portion is also very pretty. If I had made my usual sock height and used a ribbed or stockinette pattern, I think 72 stitches would have been fine.

A few notes about what I did so I can make the second sock the same… Decreased twice--once after the widest part of the leg and again near the ankle and then did the slip stitch heel flap with 72 stitches around, decreased back to 72 stitches.

Knit while visiting at Easter, but ended up deciding I wanted the cuff bigger so the socks could be longer and fit higher on my calf. 72 stitches (large) wasn’t large enough for that with size 0 needles, so I started over with 84 stitches. Why am I using size 0? This yarn seems like a pretty light fingering weight, so I wanted the stitches to be tighter. Knit at tonight’s board meeting and got a good cuff going. I liked the striping/narrow spiral pooling that was happening with 72 stitches (narrow spiral). The extra 12 stitches have almost made the socks half dark and half light in their circumference. Really interesting the difference an inch in diameter makes.

Bought the yarn on a “Girl’s Trip” to San Luis Obispo with friends from work. None of the others are knitters, or do any crafts at all, can you imagine :-0 . The horror! Nevertheless, they indulged me and I popped into the yarn shop that I had scoped out. This was a local dyer and the color was beautiful. Was the last in the shop of a Great Gatsby collection that Valkyrie Yarns did. Have been debating what to use it for, but finally decided to use it for socks. I split the skein into two equal halves and I will make these socks relatively long. The yardage is generous and I want to use as much of it as I can!
