7/13: probably 2/3-3/4 through the first skein and loving it. Every time I take it out, it takes my breath away.
It’s getting interesting as each side is getting longer, but I think it will be very interesting to continue working this as one giant log-cabin square, going on to a second skein. I am curious to see the visual impact of the longer sides on the color runs of the yarn.
I am really loving this project!
………………………
I am so happy with the outcome.
Total yarn used is 266 gms, which translates to yardage shown above. I would have considered continuing for another 50 gms or so, but it needed to be finished by 8/31 and is a nice size for a lap throw or whatever.
I finished it with a simple single-crochet edging. Was very happy to find the deep purple worked all the way around, without blending into any of the outermost sections.
I am not felting this, but will be steam-blocking it.
…………….
Note on the yarn: I love, love, love this yarn but it tends to have knots mid-skein with improper continuation of colors. I actually had 5 skeins of the yarn in my possession and, when I encountered evil knots in my 2 main skeins, I had to “break into” 2 other skeins to be able to continue the color sequence correctly.
So… the trick is to rewind your skeins at least once, checking for knots and ensuring your color sequencing is following in the same order for every skein.

This is a long overdue update… This blanket was so beautiful and ALex presented it to her host mom when she began her semester studying in France in 2011. The woman was not particularly appreciative of it, which upset Alex (and me), but I told her it was okay. Unfortunately, the woman turned out to be a serious alcoholic and would often pass out while doing things like cooking. One night she did this late at night with something cooking on the stove and it started a fire!!!
It woke Alex and she was able to put the fire out but the apartment was filled with smoke and Alex was terrified. That morning she packed all her stuff and went to the university exchange student office and got a new host home.
I was furious that this happened and was devastated at Alex having to handle this all on her own…but she did it! And she did it almost all in French! Her dad and I were very proud of her and I know now it marked a really significant milestone in her life.
Although I loved this blanket and regret giving it to the first host, I will never remake it in the same way because of the scary memory of what happened. Instead, when I look at the photo, I am reminded of the strong, level-headed, and confident young woman who is my daughter.
