In September 2005, I was given a gift by a wonderful coworker - the gift of knitting. Karen has been knitting for many years and she has taught many through her old yarn shop and more recently, coworkers and grad students.

As we knitters know, we make sweaters and such for ourselves and friends but it’s rare that someone knits for you. Karen saw this pattern in Interweave and mentioned that the socks would be warm for her cross-country skiing adventures. Karen will be retiring in a few days and I will give her a pair of hand-knit socks, a symbol of my friendship and an appreciation of the art.
