Knitting Star B with fingering weight yarn and size 0 needles. About 6g per star. The ribbon is added before stuffing and tied inside.

I tried several cast on methods, including the one in the pattern, and settled on a modified version of the pattern cast on. As the author mentions, a provisional cast on does make things slightly out of sync. But I wanted to do something that didn’t require picking up 120 stitches. Here’s what I’m doing:

Cast on is done with 2 circular needles. Knitting done with
6 dpns - 1 for each star point +1 for knitting. update: I’ve started knitting with magic loop. Either way works fine

Using 2 circular needles, hold two needles together and cast on 110 stitches using backwards loop. Add a stitch marker on the bottom needle every 22 stitches.
Pull the bottom needle though so stitches are on the cable. The top needle stays put.
With the top circular needle, PURL the first row. This is the setup round. Make sure to keep the stitches snug (you could use a smaller needle for this). Turn. Now, knit round 1 off the circular needle onto double points.
It’s a bit awkward with the stitches on the cable, but no more than starting off with dpns normally. In fact, the cable gives some stability :)

When finished the first side, turn upside down and knit the setup round off the needle onto double points. Be sure everything matches up - you may need to move the purl to the end of the repeat. DO NOT TURN. Then continue with round 2 and so on.

I usually weave in the ends and put the ribbon on after about round 6 or so. You can stuff at round 9 or 10. I find it stuffs just fine after round 10 - weave the tail through the stitches and stuff before pulling tight.
