Two new techniques for me in this one: a provisional crocheted cast on, and cabling. I’m hoping this will be one of those rare creatures: a hat that fits over my ample hair without looking ridiculous.

17th February:
This is progressing well so far. Was concerned I didn’t have gauge (was coming out way too big), but continued working as I figured it was one of those projects where the width wouldn’t matter as much as the length. Turns out after working a few inches that it was the provisional cast on affecting the width of the first few rows. I’m now spot on for unblocked gauge (don’t you love a pattern that gives you that measurement as well as the blocked one?!)

I’m not incredibly fond of the texture of the yarn, as it feels fairly rough to work with. It should be nice and warm, though. Can’t think why a Rowan yarn would feel like this, though. Normally they’re beautiful to work with.

19th February:

I’m about to start cabling. It’s exciting, and I keep looking at other cabled patterns and seeing them as a real possibility for the first time. Here’s hoping it goes well!
