Notes

Love love love this pattern! Kay Matthews wore her bright acid green prototype to the Guild adjudicated show back in the spring, and I was absolutely smitten. I knew I had to knit myself an Amalia…

The knitting itself is very straightforward -- you knit a long strip of lace, for the border, and then pick up stitches and knit a short row section for the body.

However, I managed to add some drama… I lost my second ball of STR under the car in a dark parking lot, and didn’t realize until the following day, when we were a couple of hours away. Thankfully, the first ball did the entire lace section, so I figured I could order a second ball for the body of the shawl and even if it was a different dye lot, it would be okay. However, my lovely friend Johanna happened to have a single skein of Rooky on hand, just down the street, and she was kind enough to sell it to me, so I didn’t even have to wait for shipping. Thank goodness for friends!

A note on the size: I followed directions for the small size, but since STR (even in Lightweight) is heavier than the Koigu specified in the pattern, I went up to a larger needle size. As a result, my finished shawl is probably closer to the large size than the small.
