I knit the smallest size and was getting gauge perfectly, but the bonnet turned out to be barely big enough for an orange. It might fit a newborn baby, but not up to 3 months. I’m trying again, knitting the next size up AND working on 3mm needles, to see if that will make for a better fit. The hat was adorable but too tiny to feel usable. The looser gauge will feel cosier too, and let the hat drape a little instead of having sharp corners.

To soften the bumps at the back of the head, I spaced out the increases 4 sts apart instead of 2 (i.e., 2 sts on either side of the marker instead of 1).

Because I’m doing the selvage in a contrast yarn, the inside bumps where the sts are picked up show really clearly when the stockinette rolls up. I’m knitting 5 rows of st st, 1 row of rev st st, and then another 5-6 rows of st st which I’ll graft down to enclose the raw edge where the pick-up happened.

23.5 grams overall. About 10 each of the main yarns, and 3.5 of the turquoise.
