Notes

One of our dear Uptownknitmob friends is moving to BC to farm sheep and other livestock, so we had to make the sheepiest blanket possible!

We used DK weight yarn. Each square started with a 52-st cast-on (so 26 sts per side). When the decreases got that down to 7 sts on either side of the centre, we switched from an undyed or natural coloured yarn to a contrast yarn to make a small square in the corner of each piece. I distributed a lot of yarn to various mobbers, including shorter lengths of yarn that I overdyed for contrast and variety; others used their own stashes.

14 people contributed yarn and squares. Kim and I did the seaming (using sock yarn that Matteo had just destashed to me!). Then I picked up and knitted a border, log-cabin-style, with neutral and contrast yarns, and left the stitches live on the cables. Next, I handed that bundle off to Suzanne, who added her ingenious garter-stitch i-cord, including a REALLY clever two-colour i-cord variant. Finally, the blanket came back to me for blocking!

I’m so delighted with the blanket, which I think is perfect for the recipient — and I think she thinks so too. :)
