I’m a little worried by the increase rate on this -- 6 sts every 2 rows -- which is lending quite a ruffly effect. We’ll see how it blocks out! The diagram/schematic is not particularly useful, and there are no photos of the shawl laid flat to compare to. (The reality of working from a new pattern, not one that’s been knit up hundreds of times already!)

I’ve overdyed some of the mobmas colours and added a couple of other stash yarns to increase my available yardage, and to smooth the transitions between colours.

I worked up a spreadsheet with stitch counts and percentages for the pattern. You couldn’t knit just from the numbers — you need the pattern to tell you how to do the increases and lace — so I feel okay about sharing this. If it’s useful to anyone else, the spreadsheet is here. I am using it to calculate overall yardage requirements and how far each bit of yarn will take me.

The pattern calls for just two garter bumps (four rows) after the lace. I’ve gone for three (six rows) just for a stronger edge, and to more fully fade in the navy.

Bound off! I used the Icelandic bind-off, which matches garter stitch well and which has a good amount of stretch.

I am in love with the colour progression — even though I now have 28 ends to weave in — but not so much in love with the shape.

There is SUCH a lot of gathering along the increase edge, and there’s a hump at the start of the shawl. I’m hoping that a thorough blocking will help ease the puckering.

The finished shape bears little resemblance to the schematic in the pattern. I can see that if I suspended it from the two points, it would sort of be that shape, but with massive ruffling. I can also see that the blocked shawl will be a reasonable match for the modelled shots of the shawl in the pattern, so it’s not that I think I knit this wrong! I’m disappointed that the pattern wasn’t more explicit about the shape — a flat-lay photo would be a very valuable addition.

Aside from that, the instructions were clear, and the knitting was pleasant and easy.
