I did the blossoms-only version, but wanted to lengthen it (the blossoms being less than half of the total length of the original Hanami I made). I did 12 rows of plain stockinette in the centre, and then did 2 repeats of chart A on either side. I knit B-E as written, then repeated F 3 times. (I don’t love G, because it seems to switch from the organic, natural feel to something too structured.) Then, I did a border on either end, as follows:

• Rows 1, 3, 5, 9, 11, 13, 17, 19, 21: K across.
• Rows 2, 4, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20: K3, P to last 3 sts, K 3.
• Rows 6, 8, 22, 24: K across. Rows 7, 23: K3, K2tog, YO to last 4 sts, K4.
• Row 15: K4, K1 and place bead on that stitch (using crochet hook), K3 to last 4 sts, K4.
• Row 25: K3, Kfb to last 3 sts, K3.
• Rows 26, 28, 30, 32, 34: K3, p to last 3 sts, K3.
• Rows 27, 29, 31, 33: K across.
• Row 35: Beaded bind-off: K1 and place bead on that stitch; bind off 3 sts to end.

Dec. 2008: Hmm. I found the stole in a basket in my sister’s closet, with 5 holes in it -- all in the same 8” section, but across the whole width. I don’t think it’s moths. More like there was one section of the yarn that was weaker or something! Anyway, I’ve repaired the holes, and am giving the stole back to her again at Christmas, along with an extra length of yarn for future repairs.
