So excited to finally be making this -- I’ve been ogling it online for ages, it seems, and then I saw one in person, and finally found a place that sold the yarn at the K-W Knitters’ Fair this year (2008). It’s such a cool texture! Not much different from knitting with sewing thread, but the result is absolutely unique.

I was inspired by this Flickr user’s addition of stripes to soften the transition between the two sections. So pretty! The sequence goes 8-2-6-2-4-4-2-6-2-8 on her scarf; I switched to smaller needles after the 4-4 section but then found the stripes were narrower, so I expanded the 6-row stripe to 8 rows, and the 8-row stripe to 10 rows. (Final result: 8-2-6-2-4-4-2-8-2-10.)

I should note that I added the striped section as extra length, not reducing any of the other sections to accommodate it. I’d prefer a longer scarf anyway!

March 4/09: Finally finished this. I got distracted by something else with literally only 14 rows left, so after only a couple of hours, I’ve finished the knitting, woven in the ends, AND done the felting! (15 minutes in a basin of hot soapy water did the trick very well -- I just rubbed each section between my hands for a few moments.
