Notes

I just found out that my uncle is marrying his long-time partner, Myriam. She is Chilean, and belonged to the national folkloric dance troupe. I found out about the release of this shawl pattern -- named after a famous Uruguayan tango -- the same day as I learned about the wedding. Throw in some Peruvian yarn, in lovely merino/silk, and it all seems perfectly meant to be.

May 10, 2009: Bound off tonight! Just have to weave in ends and block this out. It’s on the small side, but I have hopes that it will grow sufficiently during blocking. Myriam’s quite petite, so smallish is okay. For those who are knitting for larger/taller folks, you might want to consider 5 repeats of the oriel lace, instead of the 3 shown in the pattern.

May 15, 2009: Blocked to 57”, just 3” shy of the specified 60” width in the pattern. It’s a lovely shoulder shawl, and I’m happy with the size, but it’s NOT a grand, swooping shawl as it appears to be on the pattern pics.

Jan. 27, 2011: A picture of this shawl in-progress was just featured in a Knit on the Net article about how to use lifelines. How cool!
