Notes

This pattern is beautifully written and charted. It’s exquisite! I’ve been wanting to make one ever since I saw the pattern, and I’m very glad I took the time.

I had a hard time finding a 4” ball to use as the planet’s core. I ended up with a 3.5” styrofoam ball, layered with batting and that green painter’s tape stuff to build it out to 4”. Actually, in some ways, that was really good, because the painter’s tape is matte and darker, so it doesn’t show through any gaps the way a white styrofoam ball would.

I will say that knitting around the ball was not especially fun. It wasn’t terrible, but… well, I bent every single one of my metal DPNs at least slightly, in the process. The finished object is lovely, though! I debated using just a soft stuffing, which would have been way easier to work around, but without the firm core the knitted shape is slightly elongated, and not very planet-like.
