Wanted to make a hat in fingering (not held double). Cast on 96. K1p1 for 3/4” on US 2’s. Stockinette on US 3’s using same motif as Miller’s Polar. Knit for 4 1/2” from cast on. K2tog every 8 stitches, k a round, k2tog. every 7 sts, etc. to make a spiral crown. Knit ears separately.
Cast on 11 sts.
Row 1: Knit all.
Row 2 (and all even rows): Purl.
Row 3: Knit 5, kfb, knit 5.
Row 5: Knit 5, kfb 2 times, knit 5.
Row 7: Knit 5, kfb 4 times, knit 5.
Row 9: Knit 5, kfb 8 times, knit 5
Row 11, 13: Knit.
Row 15: Change to contrasting color. Knit all.
Row 17: Knit 5, k2tog 8 times, knit 5.
Row 19: Knit 5, k2tog 4 times, knit 5.
Row 21: Knit 5, k2tog 2 times, knit 5.
Row 23: knit 5 m, k2tog, knit 5.
Row 25: Bind off.
Sew ends tog and sew sides of ears onto hat.
