Notes

Color 1--Madtosh Twist, Holi Festival
Color 2--Miss Babs Tarte, Perfectly Wreckless
Color 3--Malabrigo Sock, Arco Iris
Color 4--Miss Babs Cosmic Sock, Swan Princess
Color 5--Araucania Itata, Purple

Using a smaller needle because I’m planning on using nearly 1400 yards of yarn, and don’t want the finished piece to be gargantuan.

12/19/2020--got almost 4 full repeats of the lace chart from the first colorway (Holi Festival). Started the fade to the second colorway (Perfectly Wreckless) with 6 grams of yarn left. Didn’t quite make it and made one row out of a similar leftover colorway. Since the rows will be considerably longer by then, I’m planning to start the next fade at around 18-20 grams of skein 2 to be safe.

Started next fade at 18 grams of skein 2. Ended up fading over 16 rows instead of 8 to use up the rest of skein 2.

Started border chart with 50 grams left of skein 3, after 8 repeats of the body chart.

1/31/2021 Currently on Row 15 of the border chart with 24 grams of skein 3 left. Pulled another 24 grams of similar colorway from the leftover pile to fade into. Will start the new fade at 15 or 16 grams. This shawl is going to be massive once blocked.

2/11/2021--Finished the knitting last night. Shawl is currently blocking. Started the fade into the 4th color with 16 grams left of skein 3, on row 21 of the edging chart. The 4th color was a trifle heavier fingering weight, so those 24 grams over the fade were just enough to reach row 3 of the edging chart repeat. Ended up using an additional 16 grams of a 5th coordinating colorway to finish out the garter edge and bind off.

So total yardage was 1524, and the shawl is gargantuan, after all. smile At least it will keep Kim warm while she goes through chemo.
