PARASOL!!!! :D :D :D

View it in progress on Youtube! I explain a bit of my process and show my knitting style. Plus, you can see the shininess of the yarn that’s difficult to capture in photos.

You know, normally I don’t have much of a problem with charts. But this chart is so non-standard that it’s irritating. Bah. I can’t decide if I want to rewrite it in the way I like it, or if I should suck it up and learn this method instead.

Used 3 balls as of round 75. Going to have to order a couple more to be safe, even though they likely won’t be the same dyelot. Started with 5, ordering 3 more just to be safe.

Final cast-off round: started the 8th ball of yarn just before the end of the last knit round! So I know I have plenty left. Since I modified the pattern, I am slipping the first stitch of the round to the start of the round, then gathering 3 sts into one single crochet, then every (4 sts) until the next start of a repeat where I do another 3. So mostly 4s with 3s in between.

How I attached it to the frame:

  1. I bought a paper parasol.
  2. I took the paper off.
  3. I put the knitting on over it. I put a lifeline in around the center cast-on and unraveled the center so I could then use the live stitches from the lifeline to knit up and cover it.
  4. I attached the knitting to each rib with needle and sewing thread, about 3-4” at the ends. (See pictures where the edges look snowflake-y from pulling in.)
  5. I attached the knitting to the support threads that came under the paper of the parasol with needle and thread.
  6. I sighed a sigh of relief that the whole thing was DONE! Done done done!
