A satisfyingly quick and effective, one skein project.
Yarn: If I could knit with nothing but ECY, I’d be in knit-heaven. The only small obstacle to said day-dream, is the need for limitless cash. Which I do not have, but I’m working on it. Anyhow, a single skein of the Tempo in Cromer Pier, will have to satisfy for now -- and it does!
The colour is… (and now any yarnie will roll their eyes at my interpretation) - a pale blue with darker grey/blue speckles throughout. Not too busy. Knits up beautifully. Puts my feeble dye work to shame - I am very much a novice at this.
Pattern: I needed a single skein project for this single skein of ECY. I didn’t want for the ECY to have to share the stage with another yarn. I wanted simplicity with a little interest and I stumbled across this free pattern by Justyne.
Garter stitch and a simple 25 st border, pattern repeat - making this pattern terribly straightforward and memorable (a great travel/TV knit) but actually really very effective with a pretty end result. The picot bind off is a beautiful finish and rather enjoyable to do, Imo.
I was astonished at how quick this knits up - a few days work.
No mods. It’s perfection!
On reflection: I may have needed to go up a needle size. I’m a tight-knitter, which I often think is down to experience, but I’ve been knitting quite a few years now, and my tension is yet to loosen-up. Whilst I think I achieved (just about) the correct gauge, I think the fabric/pattern could sustain an airer/lighter fabric. I reckon a 4.25-4.5mm needle would have given me this.
I’ve achieved the following blocked dimensions.
18” x 67”
Overall: what a lovely, spring shawl. Love the colour and the border detail. Thumbs up!
Oh: Cromer Pier - a favourite place of ours on the North Norfolk Coast. Norfolk being the only place I’d ever consider leaving Lincolnshire for…
