My daughter asked for ‘kitten mittens’ with this yarn so I just started knitting and ended up with this one. I made notes as I went so hopefully I’ll be able to match the 2nd one to the first one.
cast on 52 stitches and join in the round.
knit in 1x1 rib for 28 rounds (2.25 in.)
knit in stockinette for 1 row and then increase a total of 8 st. evenly on each side over 8 rounds.
continue on one side with increases for thumb gusset until arriving at 15 thumb stitches over 30 rounds.
Separate for thumb placing thumb stitches on scrap thread and backwards loop cast on 2 additional stitches to join the two sides together to knit the top.
Knit palm straight for 24 rows or 2” and begin decreases for mitten top using magic loop with half of stitches on each side (31 st. per side):
Row 1 k1, ssk, k to 3 st before end of other side k2tog k1 and repeat for other side
knit 2 rounds
Repeat Row 1
knit 2 rounds
Repeat row 1
knit 1 round
Repeat row 1 every round until only 4 stitches remain. Cut a 6” tail and thread through remaining live stitches, pull tight and take tail to inside of mitten and weave in threads.
place 15 thumb st on 2 DPN’s and pick up 4 st across the inside of the thumb (the two you cast on plus one on each side to close the gaps. Knit for 1” and then decrease evenly across 3 needles to close the thumb.
