swatched with a 3.75 to see how light the fabric would be and it worked up just a hair big so I’m going to go back to 3.5mm. I just improvised the colour sequence on my swatch to see how that felt and was actually really pleased with how well it came out :). I decided to do the ribbing in ‘Lochan’ (the dark blue) because I really love this colour so much and it looks good with my skin tone.

Those were centimetres, not inches (D’oh!)

Just realised that I accidentally read the length of the first part of the body as 7.5 inches rather than 7.5 centimetres….I think that this is going to be a nice, long, hip-hugging version of Dathan because I have plenty of yarn and I’m not about to frog back 4 inches of stockinette. Feeling pretty dumb but just going to roll with it ;).

Separated for the sleeves and worked the front back and forth and am halfway up the back. I have to say that it’s nice to just follow the sequence for once rather than considering which color to choose next. Good that I’m getting close to finishing right as the weather is starting to change. I’m hoping to have it ready for the first week of October…

09-23-2019 Neck and Sleeves!

Yay! Almost done with this one. Spend most of yesterday adding the neck and most of one sleeve and worked on finishing the first and starting the second for a few hours today. Just couldn’t make 32 stitches work across the back of the arm because it’s 8 rows longer and 32 was already a pretty skimpy pick up number. So, I picked up 37 across the back and 33 across the front for a total of 70 and then did the decreases as written but I decreased all the way down to 48. I also wanted to lengthen the sleeve, so that worked out well. Much happier with the longer sleeve because I can’t stand having cold wrists ;).

10-18-2019 Yay! finished :)!

Very happy with this finished sweater. The only thing I don’t like is the neckline, I wish it were rounder as, even with the higher back, it still presses against the front of my throat which is both unflattering and uncomfortable. I still have to wash and block it so I will try and block the neckline into a more comfortable oval. Happy that I don’t have to weave in the ends because I did it as I went using the overcast method :).

10-21-2019 Wet blocking with a rounded neckline

I tried steam blocking the neckline by hanging it on a padded hanger, giving it a good puff of steam around the neck and pulling it down into the rounded shape I wanted. After it cooled I tried it on and voila! Much more comfortable and attractive. Since that worked I went ahead and soaked it in wool wash and am now wet blocking it into that shape and correcting the slant that ribbing gets when you knit 1ply in the round. Much happier!
