Spinning and swatching
I got a good deal on some Scottish wool roving so I bought 500 grams and decided to try and spin up 450 metres of DK weight 2-ply yarn using Kate’s yarn as a model. I have managed to spin 360 metres so far and it’s coming out at about 200 metres per 100 grams. I swatched with gauge size needle as 3.25 and below gauge sized needle at 2.75. Swatch now soaking so we’ll see how it comes out. Still need to spin up another 50 grams/100 metres to meet my total.
Finished spinning and started knitting both feet!
Well, I spun up 300 grams of the Scottish wool and I have around 600 metres so I’m feeling pretty good about having enough yardage. I got started working on both feet and am at 5” in from cast on for both of them. seems to be going fairly quickly. Looking forward to getting to the patterned leg
frogging back and changing needle size
Well, I had finished one foot and almost finished the other when I asked my husband to try it on for length. The length was fine but he found them a bit wide (sigh). I know that they will draw up some, but more likely in length than in circumference, so com’on back…ripped back to the toe and went down to a 2.5 mm needle for the below gauge. Now back up to the gusset of the first one with the second one to redo. It’s all okay. Since I went to the trouble of spinning the yarn I want to make sure that they fit perfectly.
Turning heel
Yay! Both heels turned and headed up the ankle towards the interesting part. Will have to work out increases because my husband has an 8.5” ankle and a 14” calf…not quite a match with the sizing chart
