Well, I’ve started casting on using a cable cast on to make the stitches very distinct and stable as lots of people seem to have found the first row a real challenge. So far I’m at 300 stitches. Just taking it easy doing 50 stitches at a sitting and placing a marker.
This is for my daughter and I’m using an ombre yarn with beautiful transitions from green to yellow to rose pink. I’m pleased to have found a pattern that starts from the outside and goes in because the center-pull ball starts with the green and that’s what she wanted for the outside edge.

Okay, the cable cast-on was great for knitting the foundation row, no problems at all :). I decided to place a marker every 3 repeats (48st) plus one repeat at the end (25 rep. total). I counted the first row very, very carefully - recounting each set of 3 repeats before placing the marker so that I’m sure the first row is correct. It all worked out and I’ve started back on the second row feeling confident that I’ll be able to check in short increments and know ASAP if I’ve made an error. The written directions are super easy to follow and remember so I’m not using the chart for the time being. It’s slow going but so are the garter-tab shawls when you get to the last rows ;).
