Wanted to make something opework with these two high- sheen handspun yarns and improvised a stockinet stripe to which I intend to add seed stitch or garter stitch borders to offset the rolled edge.
Okay finished! Pattern is:
Cast on 35 st (long tail cast on)
6 rows seed stitch in blue mohair
continue in stockinette for 12” slipping the first stitch of each row for a smooth edge
add linen and alternate stockinette stripes as follows:
2 rows linen, 2 rows blue mohair
repeat 7 times and end with a 2 row linen stripe
cut linen and continue in blue mohair for 15”
add linen and begin stripe pattern as above* for 6 sets of stripes, decreasing 1 stitch per each set of stripes until you have decreased 7 st. (28 st. total)
cut blue yarn and continue with linen for 3”
add blue back in and make another 6 sets of stripes
cut linen and continue with blue for another 12”
6 rows of seed stitch
loosely bind off with ‘chain’ bind off and weave in ends.
pick up 109 stitches along edge and make 5 rows of seed stitch in blue mohair and loosely bind off with ‘chain’ bind off and weave in ends.
do the same along the opposite edge.
weave in ends
wash in cold water, squeeze dry in a towel and block to appx. 16” x 72”
