09-29-2020 off to a bumpy start

I was really ready to get started on this because I want to have an orange sweater for fall. So, what did I do? I cast on 208 stitches rather than 228…and then knit 4 rows of twisted rib before I realized my mistake (face palm). s’allright…I ripped back to my cast on row, picked up all 208 stitches on a smaller needle, transferred them back to the 2.5mm needle and added on the requisite stitches, joined and started over. Now listening to Edith Wharton’s Ethan Frome and on the 9th row. We shall persevere.

10-17-2020 adding longer sleeves

Have knit the body to 12” (4 balls) and am starting on the sleeves. I’ve dedicated 2 balls to each sleeve so I’ll see if that comes out to 3/4 length as I’d like since I’m making it for autumn rather than summer. Cast on 50 st with smaller needles and working 2” (16 rows) of rib as is on bottom of sweater.

10-29-2020 sleeve numbers and progress

I cast on 50 stitches for the cuff with below gauge sized needle and then knit 15 more rows in twisted rib to match bottom edge ribbing.
Knit one row plain
Increase one stitch on each side of BOR marker
knit 8 rows
increase one stitch on each side of BOR marker

At this rate I have 12” of sleeve per 1 ball of yarn (so 2 balls for 2 sleeves so far). I am hoping to get them both to full length (18”) with a third ball, leaving the remainder for the yoke…

01-06-2021 Facepalm!

I stopped knitting on this for awhile to finish up a lot of holiday knitting. So, I just pulled out the project to look at it carefully and remember where I stopped and what still needed to be done. There was something odd about the sleeve widths and lengths. So, I measured them and realized that I knit one sleeve with 3.75 mm needles and the other with 4.00 mm - I mean really! facepalm times 20 here. I guess that I will need to frog that one back and start over with the right sized tips on my cables and remember (once again) not to trust that I put the right tips back in the right package the last time I used them….sigh.

01-29-2021 Starting the Lace yoke!

I’ve had so many problems (all my fault) keeping the stitch counts right on this project. Once I joined the sleeves to the yoke I found that there was something not right and I had fewer stitches than I was meant to have (12 less….sigh). But, it was nothing tragically off so I recalculated the decreases so that I would get the correct number of rows and used the opportunity to do two long short rows to raise the back and shoulders while I was getting the set up evened out. This morning, at long last, I did the first row of the chart It was just a pearl bump every 12th stitch but it makes me feel as if the end is in sight and that I might yet wear this sweater for late winter/early spring of this year…

02-06-2021 Finished all but the underarm seams!

Will be able to finish this one tomorrow :). Fits very nicely and the arms are plenty long! Sewn bind off around the neckline, used 10 and 1/3 balls of yarn.
