Notes

I tried seven ways to sunday (6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm) but could not get stitch and row gauge at the same time, so I went with the middle path: 6.5 mm needles that came close but more stitches and fewer rows. That meant that while I was increasing I was checking the circumference fit and measuring the yoke length as I went.
Ended up stopping at sleeve/raglan/front/sleeve: 40/5/68
After seperating and casting on underarm stitches I have:
Sleeve stitches on waste yarn: 44 (as per pattern)
Body: 164

Really like the shape of this now that I’ve completed it to below the armpit. The shoulders fit nicely so all of the fiddly shaping seems to have a reason. Interested to see how the sleeves affect that.
At the moment, the funnel neck seems stiff and heavy when compared to the fabric of the body (despite my stitch count for the body being a bit denser. I’ll be interested to see what happens when I wash and block it.

03-30-2024 Not for beginners

At 22 pages, this pattern (described as a ‘simple’ sweater) is not that simple. All of the options have made it challenging to find my way through the instructions. That said, I’m an experienced knitter and with a highlighter and underlining, I’ve managed to find what I need to do. Once I found the instructions that were for ‘me’ they are detailed and the result looks good. If I decide to make this again, I will probably cut and paste just the instructions I need and print them out on 1-2 pages rather than shuffling through everything, trying to sort out what applies to the size/model I am making.

04-06-2024 1st sleeve

After the last decrease round I continued for 43 rows of plain knitting before starting ribbing (40 st.)
4” of twisted rib with US 9 needles.

04-23-2024 Finished and wearing

We’ve had a last blast of winter where I live so I actually got a chance to wear my finished White Mountains and it is super comfy and warm. I’m happy with the colour combo which goes nicely with my ‘spring’ coloured jeans. Today I may try it with the darker, high-waisted jeans to see how it looks with more contrast on the lower half. Very happy with the fit of the finished, blocked sweater.
