Love it! It fits beautifully, and it’s as comfy as an old sweatshirt. Definitely one of my favorite sweaters to date.
I made size ‘small’, which is about 1/2” positive ease for me.
I didn’t make any modifications at all - not a one. I even used the same yarn and colorway called for in the pattern. I don’t think I’ve ever knit anything without some change, even if it was just the yarn, or doing short-row shaping for the shoulders or something minor.
Usually I need to lengthen sweaters, or modify the waist shaping, but this was just right.
The cables and twisted rib were hard on my hands, especially with a non-wool yarn, but the result was worth it.
The only thing I might change if I made it again would be to lengthen the sleeve caps slightly - perhaps just another 4 rows. I think the sleeves would fit better into the armscye.
I hardly used any of the 6th skein - I only needed it for about half of the collar. Amount used includes one stockinette swatch, though even with no swatches, I’d have still needed a little of the 6th skein. Others have said they had a lot of yarn left over as well - that’s probably good, since there’s plenty to do swatches of the cable patterns if you like, without having to reuse the yarn. I’d rather have even a full skein left over than worry about running out.
Impressions of the yarn:
I like the yarn overall - it’s soft and tweedy. It looks sort of like a heavier-weight version of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, but it’s much softer, and has a duller, almost dusty look to it.
The only negative is that it does have some weird little flecks of white fibers - nylon, I suppose - and what looks like vegetative matter like you’d see in a rustic wool. But that wouldn’t stop me from using it again.
But so far it seems comfortable to wear, and I think it’s a good choice if you want a nice tweedy yarn that isn’t wool - especially if you want something that isn’t as hot to wear as wool or alpaca.
