Notes

This is a mash-up of Neiman and an Elizabeth Zimmermann circular yoke sweater. Basically I made an EZ sweater, but using the same colorwork as Neiman.

Gauge: 23 st x 35 r = 4”.
Finished bust is 36”, which is zero ease.

Worked the body on US 4/3.5mm, and the colorwork on US 5/3.75mm needles. I used US 3/3.25mm for the hem facings.

I started with a sleeve, working from the top down with a provisional cast-on, and used it as a large swatch. I knit the sleeves a little past the elbow, then put them on waste yarn so I could finish the body and then decide how long to make the sleeves. I wasn’t sure how far my yarn would go. I had plenty, so I made the sleeves 3/4 length, and used up my entire 5th ball of the main color.

The body was started with a provisional cast-on, so that I could lengthen it later if I wanted.

I did less severe waist shaping, but I added some darts at the back waist, as my sweaters tend to be a little baggy there.

For the yoke, I followed the decreases for Elizabeth Zimmermann’s circular yoke sweater to get a smoother transition rather than having the gathered, blousy look. There’s still a bit of gathering visible just before the colorwork starts - probably because I had to do the first set of decreases earlier than what EZ calls for (otherwise it would have been in the middle of the colorwork chart). But it’s not bad.

Did 2 sets of short rows before joining the sleeves, then another 2 sets right before doing the first yoke decreases. I think if I did it again, I’d probably do another set about halfway between those two, as the back neck still could have been a bit higher.

Did the 1st set of yoke decreases 3” after the sleeve join - k2, k2tog around. Then started the colorwork chart. This is 1” later than specified in the pattern for my size, but I wanted the final neckline to be higher, so that it would cover my bra straps and not be so boat-neck-like.

I did the second set of decreases between the “O”s and the stripes, and did the last set after the stripes.

For the bind-off, I did the Estonian lace bind-off so that it would be stretchy.

When I knit the facings, I was working downward rather than upward, since I knit the sleeves down, and started the body with a provisional cast-on. I knit one row with the contrasting color before purling one round for the turning row (otherwise, the purl bumps would have been in the main color instead of the contrast color), then I switched to the smaller needles and decreased 10% of the stitches on the next round. After finishing the hem facings, I did not bind off - I just put the stitches on waste yarn, folded the hem up, and stitched the live loops in place. This eliminated the extra bulk that I would have had with a bind off.
