Inspired by a friend’s (non-knit) hat. I liked the shape of it, so decided to knit my own version of it.

Jagged Little Pill
Posted on November 10, 2013 by Cheryl

While in Salzburg on a rainy day, my friend was wearing a hat that originally belonged to her mother. It wasn’t a knit hat, but I liked the general shape of it – sort of a pillbox, but with the bottom edge turned up.

I decided to knit up a hat for myself, using the same basic concept.

The brioche stitch is nice and thick, and the double layer at my ears keeps them warmer. The extra bulk of the brim also helps hide the fact that I’m such a pinhead.

Is it a pillbox? A cloche? I don’t know, but I’m happy with it. I thought about making ridges on the crown of the hat with purl rounds, but I haven’t decided if I’d like that better. I sort of like the contrast between the plain top and the corrugated sides. But maybe I’ll try making one with purl ridges, just to see how it works out.
