Second time making this sweater. I really like the first one, but I made one in the next larger size. I like the fit of this one much better than the first.
Despite the long time between cast-on and finishing, this really went pretty quickly. I didn’t work on it at all for about a year during that time. I only had one sleeve done as of mid-February 2014, and I was working on several other projects at the same time. (My first one was done in 1 month of more dedicated knitting.)
The sleeves are the most complicated part, and are slower to knit. The body goes pretty quickly. For this sweater, I knit the sleeves first. Once those were done, I just breezed through the rest.
I realized when I was starting the saddle of the second sleeve that I hadn’t changed the cable pattern for the saddle section on the first sleeve as in the directions. Decided to knit the second one to match. It won’t really matter. I just switched the cable pattern for the saddles when I knit the neck.
Worked two extra repeats for the body, and one extra for the sleeves.
The decreases (K2tog) across the saddle stitches for the neck didn’t make any sense to me - I couldn’t figure out how I could decrease 4 sts and still work that section in pattern, so I ignored them. It was fine.
I used 6.5 skeins of yarn. The pattern calls for 6, but I did increase the body and sleeves a bit. But it would have been pretty close even without those changes. (I didn’t use any of the yarn for swatching, because I’d already done that with my previous sweater.) I’d suggest 7 skeins for size S, just to be safe, and to allow for swatching. I had the same issue with the one I knit in size XS, so I’d probably get an extra skein for any of the sizes.
