Cute hat, very stretchy, and the yarn was wonderful.
I cast on 84 stitches. My hat spiralled the opposite way of the hat in the pattern photo, so I had to modify the decreases at the top.

Since I had some yarn left over from the Harvey Kimono, I thought I’d see if there was enough to make a baby hat. I’m using this cute little Spiral Rib hat pattern. First I cast on with 88 stitches, but it seemed huge. Then I tried again with 68, but it was clearly going to be much too small. I decided I probably wasn’t too far off the first time, so I started again with 84, and I think it will be fine. I wanted it to be wearable with the kimono, which I made in 3-month size, but it would be nice if could be worn earlier, too. That’s why I thought a stretchy rib pattern would be great since it would fit a variety of sizes.
But of course, I won’t have enough yarn to finish. So tomorrow I’ll be off to buy another skein of Sublime. Then I’ll have a bunch left over again, and I’ll have to try making some mittens or booties, which I won’t have enough yarn for, so I’ll have to buy another skein… Hmmmm. Sort of like chips and salsa.

The baby hat is done! I’m not sure what size baby it will fit, of course. It might work for a newborn if the ribbing is folded up around the bottom. Otherwise, it’s pretty stretchy and will probably work for next winter too.
Pattern: Frog Monkey’s Spiral Rib Hat
Yarn: Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK, color 0007, 1 ball
Needles: US6 DPNs
Comments: My spiral went the opposite way of the one shown in the pattern. I’m not sure whether that was me or the pattern – I started it several times with a different number of stitches, and I probably wasn’t looking at the pattern instructions by the time I got to the last cast-on. I noticed that the spiral was going the other way, but didn’t really think it would matter – but when I got to the decreases at the top, I had to reverse them so that they’d spiral in the same direction as the rest of the hat. (Instead of doing “PSSO, then knit x stitches”, I did “knit x stitches and then K2tog”.)
Anyway, it’s a cute little hat and went pretty quickly. And here it is with the kimono, which finally has buttons!
