This will be my 1st attemp ever at freeform crochet…have to admit I am a bit nervous!

April 26: This week’s instructions were to pick a spring flower…these are the tulips outside my office, so I will be starting with yellow & red plarn for my color :O) I chose the tulip, or actually tulips (plural) because I have a group of them growing by my office door and also the bulb tends to multiply in the ground over the years, so that’s 6 letters x 6 petals=36 x 4 (for larger project)=144 divided by the number of rows (also 4) = 36 stitches for each row for a grand total of 144 stiches. I began with a foundation sc of 36 stitches. Stitch choices were dc, tr, or dtr. I don’t do double trebles very often so I chose to do that stitch and varied my arrangement of them in my 4 rows.

May 1: We were given a special instruction for May Day reminiscent of the ribbons around the May Pole to add an eyelet round and thread a ribbon through it. I found a piece of ribbon that was red on one side and white on the other, found a corresponding Target (Christmas bag) to go with it, and since I wanted to highlight the red in the yellow plarn, it worked out well. I did trebles to match the width of the ribbon, and wrapped the ribbon around double so I may continue up the sides of my piece with it later if I choose to.

May 3: Instructions were to use your kids names, letters in the names, etc. Since I have no children yet I chose to use my cat’s names, since they are like kids to me. This is a rather challenging endevor, since we have close to 32 cats outside where I work, and they all have names! I wrote down all their names and categorized them by their fur colors and am crocheting a flower related to each color grouping to add to my piece at a later time. I used pop bottle rings in the center of the flower.
I am doing a special round(the black & gray stripes) in honor of my cat Hissy, who is no longer with me, but was a one-of-a kind cat who had several litters of 9 babies throughout her lifespan! I am using and H hook and since her name has 5 letters in it, any combination of 5 stitches I use is to honor her memory.
May 9 Mother’s Day Special instructions: I chose the red rose in thread because red is Mom’s fav color, roses are fav flower, and thread b/c that is what she crochets with most. I added two mini roses with green leaves (from another pattern) to accent the large one (she also has two daughters, me and my sister).
May 10: “Date Your Mate” month…I chose the honeycomb fillet and added a gold strand of size 10 thread to my tan/orange plarn, in honor of a friend I met at camp long ago, Patrick, who I remember well for the “Baby Bumblebee” Song…so it had to be honeycomb. I wanted a bumble bee to add to my mesh, but thus far he is not turning out the way I want, so I will keep working on him! My friend’s name had 11 letters so their are 11 honeycomb-spaces and I gave him a 10 for his sense of humor so I did 5 rows on each end of my piece for the total of 10 rows.

May-June
I have fallen behind in my ff…but I hope to catch up soon! I have added a green leaf row to my rose piece and I started a new piece for the second side of the bag perhaps with a spiral and some paisleys and I worked in some of the “cat” flowers.

Week 6-May 31st: Family Day, pick two activities from the day of fun:I did the Woven Circle Trivet to represent the frisbee (works quite well as one!) using OJ rings for my base circles. Also did the “Waves” in green around my original piece, cause I love the water!

Week 7-June 7th:DFAD Murphey, Tassels! I did a version of the Square Top Tassel and the way I interpreted the satin stitch made it look like a braided cable, which I then tied some red tassely-looking plarn to along the braid.

Additional Instruction June 12th for LoveMyDogs, did the Lacy Hearts.

Week 8-June 14th: Flag Day-did the Lacy Hearts in Red/White/Blue for the American Flag :)

Week 9-June 21st Mystery Edging…I chose to do a repeat of part of Mystery Edging 1 so that the crown-like pieces formed a row instead of stacked up on top of each other. I chose green plarn because sun makes things grow and green represents growth to me. :)

Week 10-June 27th Stitch choices were broomstick, loops, or petal mesh. I chose petal mesh because I hadn’t learned that one yet and it was a perfect fit for one “side” of my bag. I used a 3mm hook and yellow/red/black plarn.

Week 12 Additional Instruction: Fillet bunny in Walmart plarn in memory of MsBusyFingers bunny.
Week 12 Honeycomb edging…done in Apple Green, one of my colors starting with A. Placed on top of the fillet bunny.

Week 13 Decided I wanted to do both the spike stitch and the spider piece, so I flipped my bunny upsidown and did the spike stitch (slip st instead of sc method) on my existing piece in a neon green; didn’t notice until I was done and flipped it rightside up that it makes it look like grass under the bunny! Also did the spider fillet in two shades of green to be different. Not sure where I will attach it yet.
Week 14 I was the DFAD (designer for a day) for this one and did the waffle; yellow plarn.
Week 15 Close your eyes & pick a yarn by feel, open them to attach it too your piece them close them again and crochet blindly! This was the instruction. I chose a dark green plarn and attached it to the top left of the fillet bunny next to the honeycomb edging. I actually had a lot of fun with crocheting in the dark & felt fairly comfortable doing it.
Week 16 Geometry…using what you know of heights of stitches make a circle, triangle, & square or rectangle. I chose to do the Wagon Wheel square to combine circle & square, then used sc-tc to make the triangle. Purple was my main color with green as my accent.
Week 17 Iney meany miny mo…skip for now.
Week 18 Doodle! My Doodle is in blue.
Week 19 C ount cards & do Bruges
Week 22-Bonus Instruction Pick an autumnal color and freeform a leaf…done in a dark green under the gray & white flower top right corner of the fillet bunny.
Week 22 Join Scrumbles with one of two methods, dcs or chs. I did the dc joining method for joining the Triton stitch (yellow plarn) with orange plarn to my Circular Trivet pad (like a frizbee). Wasn’t sure I was going to use the Trivet in my ff, but the triton stitch was the perfect frame for it. Joined the leaf with the chain method.

Week 23Skipped ahead to this one and did the Triton shell with yellow plarn, and joined it with method 1 from week 22 around the Trivet pad.
