5-0 needles. Ravelry doesn’t go down that far (eta 18 April- now they do!)

20 sts = 1.375”

14.5 sts = 1”
21 rows = 1”

circumferences: thigh 22.75 knee 19.25 knee 16.25 ankle 11 ball 11.25

finals 20.02, 16.94 14.3 9.68 9.9

290, 246, 207, 140, (ball)144.

rows
(thigh)84, (knee)66, (calf)330, (heel height 3.5”), (foot length 11)

thigh to knee dec 44 over 84 rows, paired for pref, so 22 dec rows

knee dec 39 over 66 rows, once again double decs,

ankles dec 130 over 330 rnds, double decs so 65 dec rnds. dec one out of 5 rnds

work 18 rounds plain, dec 2 every 3rd row Nest time use paired, not matched.
20 dec rounds, once every 3 rnds 20 times.
wrk 5 round in pat, dec 1 rnd out of 5 65 times while working heel turn.

Guess who forgot about calves? yep. modding madly- esp as dh is out of town and not measurable and I want to get this in head

207ish around teh knee

+6 rnds. ditz

+6 kncles to get back to 236b sts. 7” = 154 rows

+29 sts. boo hiss. 30 sts. 15 inc rnds

154/15= 1 every 10 rnds. work plain til 14 in.

176 rnds to modern heel break. Modern heel height is 3.5”, or 73.5 rnds.- only need 60 of these, so tack 13 rnds to calf to heel measure, or 189 rnds.

so subtract 96 sts to get back to ankle double dec means 48 dec rnds. dec on rnd 3 and 7, (144 of decing out of 169 rnds??) k one plain.
_________________________
upon reading the work and interpolating what others have done heel-wise:

~2/3 of sts for heel to turn, so 140(.66) ~92.4 Actual 64% sooooo really 90 sts grouse.

dec 67% on flap part 2 st every 4 rows. so 90 goes to 60. dec 30 sts, for 15 dec rows, so 60 rows. eerie, almost the modern length!

every four rows, dec, work plain to seam DEC 1 SEAM ST, K SEAM ST, dec LAST SEAM ST, k plain, end dec. remove 62% or 18.6 sts (19)

I THINK. Ve Shall See.

Further Reflection- yes, 6 decs across, one each side of now invisible seam. Worked it down to 19, 3bo’d 18, last st awaiting my attention this am (St. Pat’s day)

now for the picking up… ugh.

I have 44+39+25+26 134.
I’d like 153. delete expletive.
153-51=102::102/2=51. pick up 51 sts.

What I Actually Did:
picked up 44 sts fol pat 25 adn 26 then 39 sts.
measured husband’s foot at ankle join to give an aim number (that would be the 153)- big legs, big feet, no arch (thank God)
worked on plain. inc’d 7 sts on one side and 12 on the other to get the gusset needle numbers up to 51.
The original pattern would have a more exotic dec rate, but I did not make this part of the stocking proportional so if I did do that it would make the foot awfully odd.
I worked two rounds plain and dec’d each gusset on round three with paired decs. repeat til I had 47 on each gusset needle, worked two rounds plain, dec on needle 4 only for an even 144 sts around. adjusted sts so I now have 36 to a needle. Stocking now measures 2” from heel to end of heel shaping. I intend to work 7 more inches in pat.

AT THE SAME TIME I maintained just the one diamond down teh foot. technically it’s not one of the diamonds that gets and inner diamond, but I plan to make an inner diamond on it anyway unless dh shoots me down.

144x=132 x=132/144 92ish
so.
.92x=12 x=12/.92 11sts

144-11=133 (wound up with 16)
so dec 133ish in 21 rnds 6.3 dec rounds. 21 rnds of 6 decs = 126. 133-126 not comfy. 8 decs round? 16.x dec rounds. 16 dec rounds subtracts 128 sts leaving 5 sts. shoot for one more rnd of just 4 decs.

k dec k dec k to end, k to last 6 sts, dec k dec k. work one plain 16 times. 32 rounds total.after 10” work 10 plain, then decs. )maybe work round with 4 decs) 3bo
