Notes

Currently hibernating (along with half of my stitch markers LOL). Had started this while waiting to buy yarn for another project.

Truthfully, not really a fan of Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki--I prefer my anime a wee bit more seinen. Though I’ve never seen My Neighbor Totoro, I’ve grown to love him, even if I do find his smile freakishly terrifying. I had wanted to buy my own Totoro plushie after seeing Toy Story 3, but discovered large sized Totoros cost over $50. Back to Ravelry!

Will pick up soon…

Update 06.27.2011

I’m trying to get rid of all most of my hibernating projects and this is the first one I plan to finish.

Things are going well. I’ve finished the body and added the face. Seeing his little face has really encouraged me to finish the project as soon as possible and not let it hibernate.

Also finished the tail and one ear before I ran out of yarn. Hopefully, I’ll be able to pick up another skein soon…

It lives.

These ears are driving me crazy. Guess my gauge has changed over the years. Tried the directions but they came out huge.

{Mods}
Followed pattern to row 15. (24 stitches)
Decrease:
Row 16: SC, INV DEC x 8 (16 stitches)
Row 17: SC x 16. (16 stitches)
Row 18: SC x 2, INV DEC x 4 (12 stitches)
Row 19: SC x 6, HDC x 6 (12 stitches)
Row 20: SC in first stitch. SL ST in next stitch.
Leave long tail for attaching.

These ears more closely resembled those of the Grey Totoro, so I redid them.

{Second Attempt}
Omitted rows 17 & 18 of above mods.
Next row: SC x 8, HDC x 8 (16 stitches)
SC in next stitch. SL ST in next stitch.

These are the ears shown in the photos.

So close!

Finished and attached the ears, arms and tail. The ears bothered me a lot, but they look better once attached. Looks like one of the arms is less stuffed than the other. Grr.

Now I just have to track down the white Simply Soft yarn I have somewhere to finish the tummy.

03/04/2018

I’m calling this project finished.

I don’t think I’ll ever be satisfied with right tummy marking. I’ve redone the embroidery multiple times and I think I’m done. The Totoro has been technically finished for almost a year, but I didn’t like the embroidery and wanted to redo it.
