First attempt at hairpin lace!
Wasn’t sure I’d have enough yarn (I did), so I went with 200 rows(?) instead of 230.
Video tutorial has been helpful.
Using Vivid from Bernat Mosaic as both a test and also stash busting purposes. Not sure I like the colorway. The jewel tones of the pinks and blues seem at odds with the earthy yellows and greens. Also, way too much hot pink.

Finished with third strip. Only one more to go.
Taking my time with this to work on other projects.

Finished up the final strip and joined all four together. Initially, joining the strips was tedious, but after a bit I kind of enjoyed it. Ended up reconnecting all strips because I kept dropping loops. Originally used an N hook, but switched to a P hook and found it much easier to keep track of all those loops.
Didn’t have a long enough tail to whip stitch the cowl together so I wove in all the ends and connected the ends with SC.
Update
Wait, was I only supposed to do three strips? Somehow got it in my head to do four.
Notes for Next Time
- Definitely should have gone with 230 per strip. I can just barely loop it around my head.
- Remember to leave long enough tails at top and bottom of strips.
- Definitely use spare yarn to keep the loops together. Not necessary but definitely helps prevent strips from twisting.
- I’ve found that braiding the edge of the outer strips before attaching helps with keeping the strip stable when joining.
- Line up all four strips before joining to make the most aesthetically pleasing design. I had a couple of places where the same color lined up together.
