Probably should have used a lighter yarn weight. The Sugar n Cream made a bulky stuffed toy and I think some of the details would have looked better with a thinner and more forgiving acrylic yarn. My only yarn options at the moment are worsted weight cotton or lace weight acrylic. For my sanity I went with the cotton.

First time with crochet colorwork. It’s nice to know that crochet colorwork is just as horrible as knitting colorwork. Since the pattern does not specify how to work the color bits, I experimented with several techniques, settling on tapestry crochet. I am not happy with the end result. Not only was carrying the cream yarn for the whole face not fun, the stiches of the face noticeably lean towards one side, and you can occasionally see the cream peeking through the brown. I’m guessing the best way would have been to color change row by row, but I can’t stand weaving in lots of ends.

Notes for the future:

• On the hands and legs, crochet over tails to reduce the hassle of weaving in ends.
• For the leaves, most of the slip stiches of round 2 are worked around the perimeter of the leaf, not into the chains.
• I skipped the chain in round 1 of the leaf.
• For round 2, I slip stiched around the perimeter of the leaf as as follows: 2,4,4,3,4,2
