Made for the Purple Stitch Project.

I wanted to make a ninja, but didn’t like the instructions provided. After a quick search on Ravelry, I stumbled upon this wee ninja. In my head, I wanted to make a ninja like those from Ninjatown.

I thought my tension was really good for this amigurumi. It’s weird to realize that a year ago, working with cotton yarn was very trying. Just look at my GMO Pea. (>~>)

On the other hand, the face could have been stretched further before attaching. I don’t think it was wide enough. I’m not keen with the accidental “nostrils” either. Also, the body twisted while doing the legs. Next time I might crochet a few more stitches before starting the legs to center them correctly.

Modifications:
Only did six rows total for each arm.

Update 7/18/2012

Got these mailed off yesterday. I hope the campers enjoy the little guys. :D

After reading the latest PSP news that they were short ninjas, I decided to make another two. I made the final one in almost exactly two hours. Not bad for a person who usually has to take so many frequent breaks that her projects usually end up taking two days. (>~>) That, and I usually “multitask” while crocheting, aka surfing teh Interwebz.

Ran out of yarn and ended up dipping into my Peaches & Creme stash. It’s a really deep purple that looks almost blue…but it’s not. The photos make the ninjas look bluish, but I guess purple + daylight = blue to a digital camera.

Pattern Edit #1:

Head/Body

I cannot get the first rows to work right, so I rewrote it:

  1. CH 11
  2. SC in 2nd CH from hook. SC 8. In last CH, work 3 SC. Continuing around, SC 8. INC in final CH. (22 stitches)
  3. Continue as pattern states.

My math calculates that I need 22 stitches in the first (second as per pattern) row. There should be three stitches on both ends (six total) and eight on either side of the chain row (16 total).

Pattern Edit #2

Leg 1

The pattern states to work 7 SC, then continue around on the back for 7 SC to make on leg (14 SC). After completing the first ninja, I felt that the legs were not centered properly and resulted in a twisted body.

For my second and third ninja, I eyeballed where I felt the center of the body was and marked the front and back center points with stitch markers. The front stitch marker indicated where Leg 2 began, while the back stitch marker indicated where I should connect Leg 1 to the back. I had three stitch markers total, including the original row-counting one.

Starting from the initial row-counting stitch marker, I worked 9 SC on the front. Continuing onto the back side, I worked 5 SC, reaching the original stitch marker and completing Row 1. I kept the beginning stitch marker where it was and followed the pattern as stated.

Even though I eyeballed both ninjas, I ended up with the same 9 SC, not 7 SC as pattern states.
