Notes

I’m caught between sizes with my narrow shoulders. Here is my plan:

  • Start with a size 34.

  • Knit two rows past Separate Sleeves From The Body for the S size. * This puts the underarm half way between S and M, and gives me 8 stitches needed for a size just under the 38 bust.

  • Increases for the V-neck tend to alter between every 6 and 4 rows for various sizes. I’ll work an increase every 4 rows beginning at 34 and ending on 13 of the underarm. (6 increases total).

  • This will give me a stitch count of 140 at the fullest part of the bust.

  • Add in the 2” button band and that’s that!

  • Worked a higher ratio of ribbing (similar to commercial sweaters) so that it didn’t look so strained. Calculated a similar ratio for the button band to match the cuffs and hemline. Love how that turned out!

  • size 8 needles - body

  • size 6 needles - ribbing on hemline, collar

  • size 9 needles - arms

  • size 7 needles - ribbing on sleeve cuffs

NOTE - The alpaca in this made the cardigan stretch much more than expected from weight. The waist fitting no longer hits at the right spot, and the button band gapes a bit. Had I knit this in 100% wool it would have fit perfectly.
