After refusing mama-knit sweaters for the looongest time, O has finally requested one! Squee!

He picked both the color and the pattern. I can’t wait to begin! :)

He typically wears a size 5 but O is pretty tall. The 12” sleeve seems like it would barely be long enough. Thinking I’ll knit to 13” and see how that works.

3/1/14~ I’m to the yoke now and worried this won’t be big enough around. It’s hard to say since I have the whole thing on 16” circulars but it must be close. Trying to decide whether to frog or go onward. In the meantime, I’m avoiding it. ;)

3/19/14~ I cast off the neck and my little guy tried it on. It’s just a bad fit. No way around it. There is a serious 4 inch gap from one edge to the other and the shoulders are tight. The neck and bottom edge are also all wrong. The only part that kind of works are the sleeves (up to the shoulder, that is). I’m not entirely sure what happened here, but I have to rip the whole thing.
I suspect the pattern runs small in general but the overall fit just seems odd to me in a way that I can’t quite explain.
It seems many other knitters had great success though, so maybe it’s just a yarn/pattern issue. Perhaps I’ll try again sometime with another yarn.
For now, it’s to the frog pond. sigh

4/26/2014~ Finally frogged this sweater and I can’t help myself, I think I’m going to try it again. I think I’ll go with the next size up this time and swatch again.

8/2014~ Trying again! The 6-8 size and I think it might fit this time. Size 7 needles for ribbing (twisted rib) and 8s for stockinette.

1/1/2015~ Sweater is just about finished and looks like it will fit this time. It is a quick knit but has taken me forever… I just didn’t enjoy it due to fit issues. Will be worth slogging through the end to see it on my sweet boy though! :)

This grew a bit in length with blocking but not so much that it doesn’t fit. Even going up a size, the pattern still seems to run a bit “slim” (no problem for O as he’s quite thin). Also, the neck is a bit wide for my taste. Overall I’d say I’m happy with the cardi but I’m also relieved to be done with it. I don’t think I’d knit this for a young boy again… Perhaps an adult woman due to the wide neckline. Or maybe adding another antler repeat at the yoke would help with the neckline?

Birch buttons from Peace Fleece.

10/2015~ After deciding he didn’t want a mama-knit sweater after all, O has passed his antler on to his sister. She loves it! ;)
