Notes

I am now a convert of the cult of Brooklyn Tweed. Their patterns are so elegant and though daunting at first glance, actually prove easy to follow. I had to look up the long-tail method on the YouTubes, but after that, the tubular cast on method was explained easily enough that someone of my experience could stumble their way through it. (When he says use waste yarn of a contrasting color, he means it!)

The lace work and cabling is fun and takes just enough concentration to keep you interested through the massive number of reps one must go through for a scarf. The technique on the edge is gorgeous and I plan on borrowing it in some of my own impromptu projects because it lays flat and looks polished from both sides.

I am still very bad at calculating how much yarn I need for a project. I bought three skeins of the Cobalt Malabrigio single ply, thinking it would be plenty. When I reached the end of my first skein and realized I was only about a fifth of the way through, I rushed back to Red Purl to see if there was any left of that dye-lot. The yarn gods were not smiling down on me that day and it was all gone. But I found the very charming Ochre that contrasts nicely and decided to finish it off with that. I’m making it in three main strips of color with a big yellow block in the middle and the ends in blue. Seeing as this project is knit in two halves and then joined, I’m crossing my fingers that I did the math right this time…
