I made this shawl for Maria’s mom who is battling pancreatic cancer. She received it on 12/11 and loved it :o)
Sadly, Maria’s mom, Constance, passed away on March 24th, 2013.
I started with one skein of wool, but realized the shawl was not big enough, and therefore made several changes to knit a larger shawl.
I made 27 repeats of budding lace for a total of 351 stitches (173+173+5)
Made a 12-stitch repeat instead of 10. Therefore, compared to the regular chart 3 (which I start from row 3), I added some additional stitches that I distributed in this way:
chart 3A row 3 -- added one stitch after the first k2tog, added 2 stitches after the sk2p in the 10-stitch repeat, and added one stitch after the last sk2p (that later becomes sk2p). Knit the chart for 13 rows instead of 11.
chart 3B row 3 -- added one stitch before the first k2t (that later becomes sk2p), added one stitch after the first bead, and added two stitches after the set of beads in the 10-stich repeat. Knit the chart for 13 rows instead of 11.
Chart 3C row 1 -- added 2 stitches after the sk2p in the 10-stitch repeat. Knit the chart for 23 rows instead of 21.
Chart 3D row 1 -- added 2 stitches before the sk2p in the 10-stitch repeat. Knit the chart for 23 rows instead of 21.
After Chart 3 A-D, I had 393 stitches (194+194+5)
Because of the different number of stitches, I started Chart 4 from Row 3.
Continue to Chart 5 as usual adding one bead every other row in the stitch between the two YOs (beads show up in row 1 and 5), but knitted one extra set of row 3 to 5 for a total of 3 beads per repeat in the edging.
In total, I used 534 beads.
Final size after blocking 155 x 68cm (61 x 27 inches).
