Notes

This is honestly one of the prettiest socks I’ve ever laid eyes on. What an interesting construction technique!

Mods: backwards loop cast-on instead of YO, to create a more “manly” fabric

If you can knit Koolhaas you can knit these socks.

First step is to create the cabled border, the instep is then picked up and knit in pattern. The sole will be done the same way, but in stockinette.

To make the honeycomb pattern easier, start paying attention early to the “rings”, once you know which way your cables are supposed to lean you’ll have to look at the pattern a lot less.

The embroidery is seriously fun. I’m doing the palestrina knots as I complete four rows of honeycomb. It’s like a reward for getting another four rows done. :)

BE METICULOUS about slipping your stitches at the beginning of each row the same way each time. Be very careful to count down each side at the same time when marking where to start the gusset. (Had to frog almost the entire sole and start again. Fortunately, due to the unique construction, it didn’t affect the rest of the sock.)

Side note: I’m making these for a man, and using the 1.25” as the stopping point makes the entire sock a bit short. It should block out okay, so I’m not re-doing it, but on the next sock I’ll knit all the way up to the end of the instep, instead of stopping a bit short.
