This is another unusual design that immediately caught my attention; I had to buy the pattern and the wool right away. But then I put the project aside because I was not sure if I would like the finished garment on me.
A couple of months ago I finally decided to give it a try, and honestly, I don’t regret it.
At the beginning, looking at the other finished Apexes, I was afraid that even the smallest size would be too big for me, but I started anyway. Then, while knitting, I thought that it would be too small. But I kept on knitting.
This is one of those projects where a good blocking makes a big difference. I am really happy with my finished jacket, perhaps when I wash it the next time I will let it dry on a hanger because I wish it was a little bit longer.
I followed the pattern and made no significant changes. At the beginning, I had some trouble with the stitch count; it took me two days to understand the first row of the left and right slanting charts, but then I found it quite easy.
The most difficult part for me was sewing in the pocket linings. After various trials I was more or less satisfied with the result, but I had to attach the linings with a few stitches to the inside of the jacket to keep them in place, as they constantly turned inside out.
Other notes:
Got gauge with 5mm needles, without blocking.
Cast on the back according to the instructions given in the pattern, but after a few rows I noticed that I didn’t like how it looked.
Started again with 4,5 mm needles, using the good old long tail cast on.
Ribbing: ktbl1, p1.
