I started this in Dec of 2005 - my first big project after the obligatory beginner’s scarf and dodgy knitted bag. The kilometres of stocking stitch were excellent knitting practise and very “character building”. But these days I can see every single skewif stitch, prolasped purl, mis-shapen increase or decrease and my sorrowful seaming (which I still hate and still suck at).

Lordy, is it boxy and HUGE! I am on guage and have knitted the smallest size despite being a big woman - 105cm bust (about 42”) and it is enormous on me.

Despite all this, I can’t help but love it - my first major project, my first wearable item, my first in a long-list of mistakes than have made me wiser and a better knitter. I think this is why I don’t want to finish it although there is probably less than 30 minutes left to complete it. It’s my baby and I love it, even if it does catch the short bus to school. I don’t want to it grow up.
